​STEM: Pumpkin Stands

October 29, 2025 - We did a fun Halloween STEM project called "Pumpkin Stands." Students worked together to build a stand with straws and tape to hold up a 1-pound pumpkin. The results were a lot of fun as stands made with the flimsy straws were not stable enough for the heavy pumpkin unless our young engineers know the secret: "Strength in Numbers!"
In 40 tension-filled minutes, all 16 groups gave it their best shot. After the placing the pumpkin on top of the stands, only 4 teams were successfull: Michael & Zarrar, Riley & Wendy, Zainab & Melodie, and Daphne & Olivia N.
For the champions, they won the Unicorn Award, $30 STEM money, and their names on our class' "Wall of Fame." Congratulations to all.
