Forces of Flight 4: PAPER AIRPLANES

Our class continues to experiment with the 4 forces of flight: Thrust, Drag, Lift, and Gravity, that need to be balanced for a plane to fly efficiently. Each group built two planes to compete. One is for distance, the other is flight time. In the 3 periods of this STEM project, the flight engineers built, tested,  and modified different types of planes that will travel the farthest and stay in the air the longest. On the final day, each team will compete in two categories: Distance and Flight Time.

Part 3 - Finals

November 19, 2025 - Final Results: Kingston & Jayden C. won the flight time contest with 3.58 seconds, while Jonah & Jayden T. won the long distance competition with 58 feet. Congratulations to all participating teams. With the experience and knowledge gathered, we will be building balsa wood gliders next!!!

Part 2 - Flight Time

November 13, 2025 - In this week, each team built planes that have large wings that can stay in the air the longest. They used stopwatches to measure the flight times to the hundredths of a second. There were planes that hovered in the air for an incredible 8 and 10 seconds!!!
Next week will be the airplane distance and flight time competition.

November 5, 2025 - In the first part this STEM project, The flight engineers built planes to fly the farthest. They calculated the glide slopes, tested, and modified different types of planes.
