STEM: Balloon Cars

August 27 - We explored Newton's 3rd Law of Motion and built Balloon Cars for this STEM project. Each student came up with their own car design using 1 balloon, a notecard, 3 straws, and 6 lifesavers as wheels. As the air escapes from the balloon in the back, it pushes the car forward, thus fulfilling Newton's 3rd law which states, "For every action, there's an equal and opposite re-action." Unfortunately, the "re-actions" were not assured as faulty engineering designs and friction can limit the distance the car can travel. However, building cars and testing out Newton's law was a lot of fun... and you get to eat the unused wheels! 😁
After an exciting competition, Zainab won the distance contest and set the all-time class record with an incredible distance of 21 feet with her balloon car. Congratulations!
